Our Process & FAQs
Together, we’ll create a plan, curated just for you, based on your unique history, goals, skills and abilities. We will also focus on translating the progress made in the therapy room into your day-to-day life, one step at a time.
Yes, Taking the first step towards creating change can be difficult, but it is also the beginning of re-igniting your sense of hope, humor and meaning in life.
Research shows that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is one of the most significant factors in creating lasting change for clients, so it is important to find a psychologist who is a good fit for you. Your therapist should feel genuine, compassionate, and nonjudgmental. You should also be able to feel relaxed and comfortable enough to laugh with your therapist at times, and to provide honest feedback about what is working, or not working for you.
What Psychotherapy with me Looks Like
Typically, we will have a telephone conversation prior to our initial meeting to make sure that we are a good fit to work together. First sessions are scheduled for 90 minutes so that we can take our time establishing meaningful goals and prioritizing what is most important to you.
As our work together continues, we may explore how current challenges may relate to past relationships, as well as past patterns of thought and behavior. We will also explore the thoughts, feelings and sensations that arise within the session, so that you can gain firsthand experience of understanding and working through them.
I may provide some research-based educational information and experiential activities to explore between sessions with the goal of helping you to understand your feelings, symptoms and behaviors more completely.
Finally, an important part of my approach is to begin to identify and build on your personal strengths and resources in order to “grow” those things that already work well in your life.
